Partners in Rehabilitation
Dave
Dallmeyer has been in practice locally for over twenty-four years. Born
and raised in Massechusetts, Dallmeyer moved west to attend Loma Linda
University in 1972 for his post-graduate work in physical therapy after
graduating from Atlantic Union College in Clinton MA. He spent his internship
at New England Memorial Hospital in Boston. Returning to California,
he was with the Rehabilitation Institute in Santa Barbara for a year,
then moved to St Francis Hospital where he became the Director of Physical
Therapy.
During his tenure at St. Francis, Dallmeyer began developing his team
approach to physical therapy,
as well as starting numerous new programs and expanding the Physical
Therapy Department. He was able to put his new ideas into practice when
he founded the Chronic Pain Management Clinic in which modalities and
therapy were selected to suit the individual patient's particular physical,
emotional, social and spiritual needs. He also developed the "Hot
Pool" exercise program for arthritis patients, which is currently
offered by the YMCA in hundreds of clubs throughout the United States.

In 1980, wanting to combine his life-long passion for power-lifting
with physical therapy,
he opened Santa Barbara Gym and Fitness. During this period he began
to compete and train other lifters as well as gaining first hand knowledge
about the specialized needs of athletes. As time went on and his patient
base expanded, he moved to Los Aves near the Bird Sanctuary where he
stayed for fifteen years. In 1999 he moved to Goleta.
Family man Dave Dallmeyer is married to Rita, has three children, Dawn,
Deanna and Derrick, and is active in school sports and activities as
well as community affairs. He has been on the Board of Directors of
the Arthritis Foundation since 1977, and co-chaired the Taste-of -the-Town
fundraiser for fifteen years. Competing at the national level since
1980, he won the National Championship in Power Lifting for the Amateur
Athletic Union in 1998 lifting over six hundred pounds. He has coached
numerous young power lifters in the Santa Barbara area.
